Ultimax UTV Drive Belts: XP vs. UA, Fitment & Belt Life

A spare belt is an easy purchase to put off until the ride that needs one. Choosing it deserves a little more attention than typing “RZR belt” into a search bar. The model year, engine package and clutch setup all matter—and two belts that look almost identical can be different applications.
This guide covers Ultimax UTV drive belts: how XP and UA compare, which listings to start with, what to buy alongside a belt, and the checks that help keep a replacement from suffering the same fate as the last one.

Ultimax XP vs. UA: which belt should you choose?
XP is Ultimax’s performance-oriented series for demanding powersports applications. UA provides application-specific replacement options for ATVs and UTVs. Both names describe a product family; neither is a universal fitment specification.
For an owner comparing two compatible listings, the useful question is whether the XP option suits the intended riding and budget. There is no honest universal answer that XP will last a particular number of miles longer, or that UA is only suitable for light use. Vehicle condition and operating conditions still matter.
| What to compare | Ultimax UA | Ultimax XP |
|---|---|---|
| Buying role | An application-specific replacement option where listed for your machine. | A performance-oriented option for demanding use where listed for your machine. |
| Example in our catalog | UA441 for select RZR and General applications | UXP441 for select RZR and General applications |
| What determines fit | Exact part number, model year, trim and clutch configuration. | The same checks apply; the XP label does not expand vehicle compatibility. |
| What to compare before paying | Current price, exact fitment, included items and warranty terms. | Current price, exact fitment, included items and warranty terms. |
One naming detail: UXP441 is an XP-series part number. “UXP” is not a separate vehicle model. Likewise, the XP in a Polaris RZR model name does not mean every Ultimax XP belt fits that machine.

Find your Ultimax belt: popular UTV fitment examples
The table below points to actual RAD UTV Parts listings. It is a starting point, not a complete fitment catalog. Open the product page and check your precise model and trim against its individual rows before ordering. A year range beside one model does not automatically apply to another.
| Vehicle / application example | Years shown in the listing | Belt to check |
|---|---|---|
| Polaris RZR XP 1000 family, select trims | 2014–2023 | Ultimax XP UXP441 or Ultimax UA UA441 |
| Polaris RZR XP 1000 / XP 4 1000 Sport, Premium and Ultimate | 2024 | Ultimax XP UXP480 |
| Polaris RZR XP Turbo | 2016–2021 | Ultimax XP UXP480 |
| Polaris RZR RS1 | 2018–2022 | Ultimax XP UXP480 |
| Can-Am Maverick X3 Turbo / X3 MAX Turbo | 2018–2024 | Ultimax XP UXP488 |
| Kawasaki Teryx KRX 1000, select trims / KRX4 1000 | KRX: 2020–2024; KRX4: 2023–2024 | Ultimax XP UXP496 |
| Polaris RZR Pro R / Pro R 4, select trims | 2022–2024 | Ultimax XP UXP499 |
The model-year trap: our UXP441 listing includes select 2014–2023 RZR XP 1000 applications, while the UXP480 listing includes the specified 2024 XP 1000 trims. Shopping by “XP 1000” alone misses that distinction. Do not assume a listed application carries into 2025 or later without confirmation.
Keep Pro R, Pro XP and Turbo R separate, too. A similar badge is not a belt cross-reference. If you have aftermarket clutches, an engine swap or a machine with uncertain service history, confirm the setup before treating the installed belt as the correct reference.
First buys: what belongs with a replacement belt?
Spend in the order that makes the belt usable. An extra belt has limited value on the trail if you cannot remove the cover or open the clutch with the tools you brought.
- The correctly matched replacement. Save the part number with your vehicle details so the next order is straightforward.
- The correct service tools. Check the vehicle manual for cover access, clutch spreading and reassembly requirements. A generic tool is not automatically suitable.
- A protected spare. Carry one on trips where recovering the machine would be difficult. Store it in its natural loop, away from sharp gear and contamination; do not crush or tightly bundle it.
- Clutch service when inspection calls for it. If belts keep failing, put money into finding the cause before stocking up on replacements.
For supported applications, the Ultimax UXP441 belt and CVT installation tool package combines the belt with the tool described in that listing. Check both fitment and included items. The tool shown is not a universal solution for every Polaris, Can-Am or Kawasaki.

When should you replace a UTV drive belt?
Use the vehicle’s inspection schedule and service limits instead of waiting for a belt to break. Dayco’s CVT maintenance guidance identifies cracks and glazing as replacement concerns and emphasizes following the original equipment service interval.
Check belt condition when servicing the CVT and before a demanding trip. Fraying, missing material or exposed cords deserve attention, as does wear beyond the manual’s width limit. A belt can still be in one piece and be due for replacement.
A burning smell, shudder or change in power delivery calls for inspection, but none of those symptoms proves the belt is the only problem. Avoid repeatedly loading the drivetrain to see whether the symptom goes away. Inspect the belt and clutch system together.
The weak point a new belt cannot fix
A better belt does not repair a dirty, damaged or incorrectly set up CVT. When a replacement fails early, the useful question is what happened around it: installation damage, contamination, worn components, ventilation problems or an operating condition the setup was not suited to.
Keep a short record of when trouble appears. Slow technical sections, a heavy load, a recent tire change or a problem that began immediately after service each gives a technician a more useful starting point than “it ate another belt.” Include the part number, approximate hours and photos of the damaged belt.
A modified machine deserves particular care. Bigger tires and engine or clutch changes mean the original application listing may no longer tell the whole story. Ask the clutch or vehicle specialist responsible for the setup what belt and calibration it requires.
Installation and break-in: give the new belt a fair start
Follow the vehicle manual and instructions supplied for your exact Ultimax belt. The clutch-opening method, checks and break-in procedure should match the application; a mileage number from another brand’s guide is not a universal Ultimax rule.
- Inspect before fitting. Check the clutches and remove debris left by the old belt using the approved service procedure.
- Handle the belt carefully. Do not force it over a closed clutch, twist it sharply or back-bend it.
- Complete reassembly before riding. Refit the CVT cover and confirm the required checks and fastener specifications in the manual.
- Follow the specified break-in. Allow for the prescribed gradual loading and cooling instead of making the first outing a full-load test.
For background on careful handling and clutch preparation, see Gates’ CVT installation technical bulletin. Its G-Force-specific driving instructions should not replace those supplied for an Ultimax belt.
Ultimax drive belt questions
Are Ultimax belts worth buying?
They are worth considering when an exact application is listed and the product suits your budget and use. Compare the actual part, included items and current terms. Brand preference alone is not a reason to overlook fitment or a clutch problem.
How long does an Ultimax belt last?
There is no single mileage figure that applies to every machine and rider. Inspect to the vehicle’s schedule and wear limits, and replace a damaged belt. A warranty period is not a promised service life.
Does an Ultimax XP belt add horsepower?
Do not buy a replacement belt expecting an engine horsepower increase. The buying decision is about the correct belt for transmitting power through your CVT. This guide does not claim a measured power gain over an original belt.
Can I use the same spare in two different UTVs?
Only if that exact belt part number is confirmed for both machines and their configurations. Engine size, brand and appearance are not enough to establish interchangeability.
What warranty comes with an Ultimax belt?
Confirm the current manufacturer terms for the specific belt supplied before purchase. Some catalog photos and older product URLs contain earlier warranty wording. Eligibility, exclusions and claim procedures should come from the applicable current terms.

The best first purchase is the belt that fits, followed by the tools and preparation to install it properly. That is a more useful starting point than choosing by the biggest claim on the package.
