Rugged Radios FAQ
What is the difference between a UTV intercom and a two-way radio?
An intercom enables communication among occupants in the same vehicle. A two-way radio provides communication with other compatible radios and vehicles. Some complete systems combine both functions.
Can Rugged Radios GMRS handheld radios talk to other GMRS brands?
Compatible GMRS radios can generally communicate on shared channels and settings. Confirm frequency authorization, programming and repeater configuration; connector compatibility with headsets is a separate issue.
Will any Rugged Radios headset work with my radio?
No. Match the exact microphone, cable connector, radio/intercom interface and helmet or over-ear application.
Do I need a radio or just an intercom for family rides?
If the goal is only conversation within one machine, an intercom may be enough. To communicate between separate UTVs you also need compatible radio equipment.
Will a helmet air pumper replace an intercom?
No. Air pumpers and communication systems serve different purposes, though some riders use compatible systems together.
For background, see our quiet UTV and passenger communication guide. Choose the actual radio system according to your riders and terrain.
